Anyone who coos at you that "parenthood is a magical journey" and tells you that you are "so very blessed" is either several decades past their child-rearing days or straight-up lying to your face. It's not that kids aren't great, it's that they're simultaneously great and insane little terrors. Author Christie Mellor knows this and wants to help keep you sane with her book The Three-Martini Playdate: A Practical Guide to Happy Parenting ($11). It's laugh-out-loud funny. Mellor doesn't so much tell you how to raise your kids as she tells you that it's cool to raise your kids with a drink in hand and a come-what-may attitude.
