Stocking up on some summer reading? We recently picked up The Summer Without Men: A Novel ($10) by Siri Hustvedt. It's a quick, 200 page read about a woman scorned (we've all been there, right?). Poet Mia Frederickson heads to her hometown in Minnesota after she learns her husband is taking a "break" from their marriage to be with a woman 20 years his junior. Mia finds herself surrounded by women: her mother and mother's nursing home friends, the harried young mom next door, and the seven junior high girls who take her summer poetry course. Together, they form friendships and learn to rely on each other. It's not an all-together light read, but we say it should make your beach day book list!
