One hundred citizens of suburban Mapleton have vanished, and The Leftovers ($10) are dealing with the aftermath. Some witnesses want to move forward, while others insist on honoring the lost with a vow of silence. Though the novel has its funny moments, it's a subdued book, with subtly flawed characters who are trying to find meaning in their relationships, both with each other and with those are gone.

I really liked this book, but everyone else in my book club hated it! It's one of those.
