Set during the end of World War II, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society ($13) is a hilarious, touching, and human book that builds up characters through a series of letters. You can't help but root for the characters of Guernsey as they outsmart the German occupation and develop a unique bond previously undiscovered. We read it in a weekend, completely ignoring our responsibilities, work, and poor husband. And it was totally worth it.
