The gloves are off and the characters come out swinging in Jodi Wing's debut novel, The Art of Social War ($12). Drawing on her own experiences with a move from NYC to LA, Wing introduces Stacy Knight, a woman who must do the same in order to follow her fiance to a happy marriage. The plot gets sticky—and bitchy—when the Los Angeles socialites get their claws into Stacy. Entertaining and ultimately lighthearted, this read is perfect for those dull holiday moments between bird basting and Uncle Bob's bad jokes.
