Set in the 1950s, The Apothecary ($12) tells the story of Janie Scott, who has moved with her family to London from Los Angeles. There she befriends Benjamin Burrows, the son of an apothecary. As the story unfolds, Benjamin's father is kidnapped, leaving Janie and Benjamin to figure out what has been done and how to get the apothecary back. Full of Russian spies, magical potions, and incredible illustrations, The Apothecary is one of those novels you pick up just to sample and emerge from hours later completely consumed in the story.
