Perhaps you've never heard of Kevyn Aucoin? He was a cosmetic master, and his book Making Faces ($15) is one of the best and oldest go-to books for makeup application lessons. Full color illustrations take you step-by-step with what type of tools you need, from eyeliner to lipstick to create the look that you see on the page. Beautiful glowing looks without all of the airbrushing, just meticulously applied highlighter, sigh, he was amazing. Ten years later, and it's still practically the makeup bible.
