Free For All

So yeah. The idea that a library is just a polite, silent room full of books, prim librarians, and other responsible adults is more than a little bit out of date. For an accurate (read "sad", "funny", and "bizarre") view from behind the circulation desk of a city branch library, have a look at Don Borchert's Free For All ($10). You'll laugh and cringe if you spend much time in libraries - and it's worth a look even if you don't, for the reminder that even the places and people that barely register to you have complicated lives and existences going on.

Bravo, Outblush! Thanks! On behalf of your hip librarian readership - this is much appreciated. But, just as a reminder for those who don't frequent the public library - books are FREE there... on loan. And, since many of us are trying to cut our budgets due to these tight economic times, I highly suggest using your library! I used to be a serial book-buyer, but now I have a long list of best sellers on hold at my local branch (downtown LA). There are also DVDs, audiobooks, eBooks (yes! you can check ebooks out at the library website and load them onto your kindle for free!!), databases, and so much more. So, the idea that the library is antiquated or archaic is actually an archaic idea. So - go! Go now! All the smart people do it!
