Flowers: Lovely to look at, but yummy to eat? We never really considered using petals and stems in our dishes until we laid eyes on Cooking with Flowers: Sweet and Savory Recipes with Rose Petals, Lilacs, Lavender, and Other Edible Flowers ($17) by Miche Bacher. Surprisingly, they're not just good for pretty presentation, and a number of varieties can be used for infusing flavor into oils, jams, and alcohol as well as enhancing main dishes and dessert. Our favorite recipe, Coconut Lilac Tapioca, calls for both fresh and candied lilac blossoms.
