Chicken and Egg
Admit it, even the most city-chic of all of us has had one of those "Man, I want a backyard so I can raise chickens and grow a garden" moments. More and more women are re-touching their roots (we're not talking at a salon, people!) and getting back to their homesteading ancestry. In Janice Cole's memoir/cookbook Chicken and Egg: A Memoir of Suburban Homesteading with 125 Recipes ($25) she recounts her experiences of picking a coop and raising chickens, and the joy of finding her first fresh egg. We love that there are both recipes and pages of humorous, real storytelling to snuggle up with. It kinda makes us want to eat an omelet while we read it
