We were hooked as soon as we found out that Maggie Shipstead's second novel, Astonish Me ($16), focuses on the intricacies of both of ballet and romance (and subsequent heartbreak). Joan, a dancer, finds herself limited in her ballet career and in her relationship with fellow dancer, Arslan, so she decides to leave the corps and marry her childhood sweetheart. As the years pass, it's clear that her son is a talented dancer, forcing Joan to revisit her past. It's a great read and and even better peek into the lives of the pros.
