Our ceiling fan might just be our favorite fixture during the dog days of summer, but when the weather turns cooler, it's just an eyesore. Finally, someone's got it right with the Hunter Fanaway ($559). Sure, it's pricey, but the clear blades are unassuming and, wait for it, they retract! So when the weather cools down, you're left with a simple light - no large looming blades for your tallest guests to smack when you're playing charades.

Love this. We just checked out the pricing at Home Depot and might go get one. My husband wants two remote controls though. We have an inability to shre :)

Why not just put the regular ceiling fan in reverse mode in the winter so it blows the hot air from the ceiling down into the room?
