Ty D.I.Y. Shower Curtain

A new year always makes us want to redecorate our apartments and get in touch with our creative sides. We've found a simple way to do both with the Ty D.I.Y. Shower Curtain ($33) - this breathable, plastic, recyclable shower curtain is quite literally our canvas, as it comes with a permanent marker and unlimited design possibilities. We think it might be a challenge to draw on such a large surface, but what a fun challenge!

The upstairs bathroom (used by the 3 girls) is in need of rehabbing, but boy, I have to confess a wariness to try this! For one thing, I foresee battles over just what to put on the shower curtain. On the other hand, they might really get a kick of out this; maybe each could have a section to call her own. I want to do that room, plus our bedroom for starters, and am having fun imagining the possibilities (if not having fun imagining taking everything out of our room in order to get new carpet. Not fun at all). All kinds of web sites to get ideas from, plus books, including the new favorite: At Home with Laurie Ann, I love the down-home style of writing -- so non-intimidating. And she shows how you can add new items with the stuff we already have, which is important, because we do NOT have lots of money to spend on this. I'm into thrift, and so is the author. But you get style, and not just budget savings.

Link doesn't seem to work, so if anyone else wants a preview of the book, try http://www.AtHomeWithLaurieAnn.com/or www.AtHomeWithLaurieAnn.com/ -- you'll love all the photos!

Threw in an extra word up there: it's http://www.AtHomeWithLaurieAnn.com/

And may I say, we're getting a little closer on the bedroom redo! I'm kind of excited. Not excited about today's snow, but that's a different matter...

I got a white fabric shower curtain for much less and am planning to decorate it with fabric paint. Or I could let the kids at it with washable markers, and have a rotating display...
