We're fond of our lil' Outblush Editorial family, and are usually in accord regarding product selection, but sometimes we look at an item that a fellow editor has chosen and do a double take. The idea of storing your wine corks has merit (and gives you boozehound cred, of course!), but the fact is, this Cork Cage ($34) looks like it came straight out of an early 90's kitchen. You know the one, with the grape vines hand stenciled around the ceiling and the "Live - Laugh - Love" decal over the stove, perhaps a "Bless this mess!" magnet on the fridge. The fact is, we're just too hip and youthful for this kitschy ironwork, though by all means, bring on the wine! [Disagree? Get another perspective on the Cork Cage.]

Totally agree with the 90's kitchen comment. My husband and I saw this for sale at a local winery last weekend, and I immediately thought it was kitschy and tacky.
I am a total wine-a-holic, and I prefer to save my corks in something like this:

A container for corks does not have to be so literal.

Why on earth does anyone need to save corks in the first place? Maybe one or two just in case you need one to stop up an open bottle, but come on. And yes, that thing is ugly and a terrible waste of money.

Wine corks can be recycled at many local co-ops and other places. I like the idea of this container, because it would remind and encourage guests (and my drunken self) to save the cork and take it to be recycled.

To answer Caitlin's question there are a lot of things you can use cork for. Starting a fire for example. You can also put one in boiling water when cooking octopus to make it less chewy...for all you aspiring chefs out there.
