For those of you with vintage styling with a modern sensibility, today's guest poster should really ring your bell. She's the lovely Emily who we found through her wise and witty blog, but what made us fall head over heels for this woman was her vintage reproductions. Take a peek at Doppleganger Wear and you'll understand. Clearly, the woman has style, so we'll let her take it away.
Meandering about my neighborhood recently, I sighted, then fixated upon, a pair of jersey knit, striped, cuffed, shorts from RoganNYC, a shop on the Bowery. I proceeded to ogle these Petrov Shorts ($108) for days, and I finally tried them on. They were surprisingly flattering. I was sure the stripes would make me look like I'd eaten one too many donuts for breakfast, but to my great joy, I still resembled the approximate girth to which I aspire. Then again, maybe Rogan has one of those magic dressing-room mirrors that makes you look slim and chic, even if flabby and bedraggled in real life. And they do have nice dressing rooms: soft leather floors! I suppose that's further evidence they are aware of the details, which is why I liked their simple shorts in the first place. They fit well, the fabric was really nice and soft and drapey, and the price was fair. My only hesitation is that they're a little short for me. We ladies who were thirteen in 1974 don't typically like to show off our upper thighs like we may have back in the day. Still, I really like the cuff on these things! Without them, they'd be boxer shorts, but with them, they look designed to suggest leisurely activity. Supermom meets "ladies who lunch"--a good fast walk to pick up the kids from school; then a pit stop at a proper people-watching outdoor café for a great big midday lemonade...
