Being astute persons, you've probably noted that the bulk of our beauty posts today were products by E.L.F. and NARS. Why? These two cosmetics companies are each sponsoring a fabu makeup giveaway this week (Yes, sponsoring. We're broke twentysomethings, and we have bills to pay, too!). In honor of that - because who wouldn't be inspired by all those amazing cosmetics? - we're centering most of our posts around the theme of various products for eyes, lips, and face.
But now, on to the giveaway, because we know that's what you all want. The prizes? One winner will get a NARS prize pack worth $182, including two eyeshadow duos, one lipstick, and five lip glosses; and one winner wil receive the E.L.F. 83 piece essentials kit, worth $30. How do you enter? Well, anyone who is our fan on Facebook by the entry deadline will be automatically entered, but to get up to two more entries (3 per person total), you can either leave a comment below or tweet us with your answer to the question: "What was the first piece of makeup you ever bought?" The deadline? 12pm PST Friday, November 20, 2009. Good luck!

Lauren
The first makeup I stole was my mom's old lipsticks, all dried out and pink. The first makeup I bought was red lipstick, to rebel against the pink.
Nocona
The first item of makeup I remember buying for myself is Merle Norman Automatic Shadow Base. My mom has used it since I was a little girl watching her apply her makeup everyday. I learned early on that in order to keep your eye shadow perfect and crease-free all day you must always start with a base.
Maryanne
The first makeup I ever bought was one of those compacts with about 20 different eyeshadows - it was hot pink, and the eyeshadow was truly obnoxious, all bright bright bright colors.
Kelly
Oh I wish I could remember! I think I got a lot of old stuff from my many many sisters. (8 biological)
Simone
I'm sure I bought lil' bits of makeup here and there from the drugstore, but my first Fancy Makeup was a blue eyeshadow from MAC. Yes, it was blue. Shush.
Anna
My first makeup was a CoverGirl pressed powder compact. I felt so glamorous looking in the mirror and patting on the powder!

Of course my first makeup purchase had to be eyeliner. After borrowing my mom's for a while, I realized that I needed my own to fill my constant need for retouching! It's a girl's best friend. I still have it actually, to remind me of my first foray into the world of makeup addiction.
Amy
My first makeup was one of those huge kits with terrible colors of eyeshadow marketed toward little girls. :) I loved that lime green eyeshadow!
I eventually upgraded to Wet n Wild, then Cover Girl and Mary Kay, all the way up to the ranks MAC, Nars and Bare Escentuals. My how far I've come! :)
Gini
I actually bought several things at once, including blush, lipstick, and foundation; but The Very First Makeup I bought was mascara. :) It was Maybelline Great Lash in the pink and green tube.
Sheena
My first was Maybelline Great lash. I was so nervous! They felt enormous.
Amy
I, along with my 6th grade girlfriends, went to the pharmacy to purchase Rum Raisin Cover Girl lipstick. It was all the rage in 1994!

It was a million years ago - and I'm sure it was a Bonnie Bell Lipsmacker.

Cover Girl Liquid Makeup. I applied it with my fingers and was a total mess - I hadn't learned the "less is more" lesson yet. Ha!
Kat
The first item I bought was black kohl eyeliner! I thought I looked very made up :)
Kate
I was wearing crazy bright sally hansen nail polish long before I discovered any other type of makeup. Anything with glitter was a must.

The first makeup I ever received was Tinkerbell pink nailpolish, probably from my mommy :)
As a teen I think Cornsilk face powder was my first 'grown up' makeup.
Jessica
Most of it was stuff my mom gave me at first from her own makeup collection, but my first makeup purchase was a compact of Cover Girl pressed powder and a bottle of hot pink Wet n Wild nail polish. From then on, makeup was an addiction!
Mary
The first make-up item I ever bought (and still do for nostalgic purposes) was Cotton Candy Lip Smackers! Mmmm...
Kat
The first item I bought was black kohl eyeliner! I thought I looked very made up :)
Nicole
The first "real" make up I ever had was Merle Norman. My mom as an incentive and reward for good grades in middle school, took me to Merle Norman for to pick out some cover up and pale pink lipstick. That started my love of makeup. When I had my first real job, and got my first paycheck, I went right to the MAC counter and got lipstick in 'O', eyeshadow in 'Shroom' and 'Sable' and Studio Fix. 10 years and many, many eyeshadows later, Shroom and Sable is still a staple in my makeup cabinet.
kate Gillen Malik
I have CLEAR eyelashes. The first makeup I ever bought was mascara. Silver. Nice.
Nikki
My very first makeup purchase ocurred when I was 5 or 6 years old. I saved my allowance to buy a Tinkerbell makeup set with eyeshadows and blush and lip balm. I can still remember how the lip balm smelled.
Catherine
Cover Girl Eyeliner and Mascara at the same time. I still use the mascara. :)
MARIANA :)
I was so proud of my Cover Girl Petal Pink nail polish... I used that bottle well until the contents got clumpy and toxic.

Laura
I was eleven or twelve when I first bought lipstick in some unflattering shade of red. Then, Maybelline mascara in the pink and green bottle. I'm sure I looked awful.
Faith
I believe the first ever piece of makeup I ever bought was when I was 11 or 12. It was a Wet N Wild lipstick in an unflattering shimmery lavender. At the time I thought it was cool, now I realize I looked like I was some sort of weird ice child with frozen lips.
Jamie
Clinique almost lipstick
Sarah

Either a bonne bell lipsmacker or a maybelline kissing slick. I'd love to find a kissing slick now!
Sara
The first makeup I bought was concealer, because of my dark circles! People have asked me if I had black eyes before. No, I didn't get punched in the face, thank you.

Does Dr. Pepper Lip Gloss count? If not, I think I bought some under eye concealer.
Liscel
The first piece of makeup I bought was a Covergirl lipslick. I had to ask my dad to take me to the drugstore so I could hide the make up from my mom.

Definitely lip smackers, I was addicted to that stuff as a pre-teen. I remember getting a Clinique gift pack in 6th grade and that's when I started experimenting with make-up, but I had no clue what I was doing!
Samantha
I believe my first piece of make up was a beautiful brown-with-gold-glitter lipstick from the Wet N' Wild. I was 11. I felt sooo purty. In realtiy, I was sadly not.

Actually the first piece of makeup I bought was a nightmare. I was 13 and not allowed to even touch the stuff, but one night when I was spending the night with a friend, and I purchased some eye liner. I put it on that night and was so delighted. That was the last time I got to enjoy it. I had to keep it hid from my parents. I was so terrified they would find it that I never got to enjoy it.

I have long eye lashes, I always have. So the first makeup I bought was Maybelline Great Lash Mascara. In the pink tube. I think it still looks exactly the same and always brings me back to being a teenager.
As soon as I put that mascara on, I knew life would never be the same! :)
Stephanie Smith
The first make-up I ever bought was bright glitter blue eye shadow, which my father promptly made me take back! Of course, I still put some on when I'm feeling particularly rebellious, or just to make him laugh!

My first piece of makeup was actually part of a kit. I bought a book specifically because it came with a "Make your own lip balm" kit. It came with fragrance oils and unscented lip balm. I was like 5 years old. So not only was I 5 years old buying my first makeup but I was also making my own.

Corina
My first ever makeup purchase involved some hard earned (aka birthday present) money at the tender age of 7. I trotted down to Mervyns with my mom and bought a fierce Tinkerbell cosmetics set. Perfume, scented powder, candy pink lipstick, and peel off matching pink nail polish. I was STYLIN! I soon moved on to Bonne Bell and eventually Clinique, but I wish I could rock that peel off polish today...tres chic!

Deborah
I think it must have been some kind of Clinique powder or eyeshadow. Or maybe it was the clear mascara. Start at the basics you know!
Dixie
The first makeup I ever bought was a tube of plum colored lipstick. In middle school, I was helping a neighbor with her small clothing store and she decided to expand into the makeup business. She practiced her skills of figuring out colors on me and the only thing I could afford on my babysitter's salary was the lipstick. I wore it proudly, with probably no other makeup so I looked as awkward as a middle schooler is expected to look, but it was certainly my first, and most memorable, makeup purchase.
Stacy G.
