Says Jess: "My boyfriend and I are looking for the perfect gift for his sister and her husband . . . They are really family oriented, a lot of what they do involves the kids . . . Probably because of this they do a lot of hosting. Football games, Halloween, holidays, Super Bowl, Fourth of July, etc. They are currently remodeling their basement & including a bar... We thought of a glass set or something, but worried that maybe more of a gift for him, rather than both. They both are great cooks - he's a stay at home dad, so he's got the day to day stuff down pat & she is heralded for her baking."
Hi, Jess - it's Marian. While gift cards are fun, it's thoughtful of you to want to put together a more personal present! Here's a collection of things that they might enjoy.
First off, they very definitely sounded like Family Game Night types, so you should know that reproductions of several vintage board games are now for sale for the holidays at Cost Plus, like 1) Ludo ($8), 2) Hopla! ($10), and 3) Grand Prix ($9). (Since they probably already have a Monopoly set, yeah?)
The devoted home bakers we know seem to love Rose Levy Beranbaum's 4) The Bread Bible ($23), which was the followup tome to 5) The Cake Bible ($23). And you don't have to leave out the up and coming barkeep: a shiny 6) cocktail shaker ($25) wouldn't be out of place, and for giggles you could include a big pack of those 7) multicolored plastic drink swords ($10).
Lastly, if they're the eternal gracious hosts, how about an ornament for their ever-ringing doorbell? The 8) pineapple ($7) is a very traditional symbol of hospitality, but if they'd like something a little more offbeat, how about this 9) bronze-plated frog ($20)?
