We recently got wind of an awesome new website that is set to revolutionize the way we shop for clothes online. UPCload, a Berlin-based baby born in 2010, utilizes new technology via a webcam to take body measurements to ensure a correct fit when you're shopping for clothes online. For free. Let us explain...
This particular editor, Magzilla, had the opportunity to test out the beta version of this website. It was fairly simple, but certainly required some planning, so it is best to do this from home. The first step of the process is to change into tight-fitting dark clothing. You also need a white CD for the initial scanning photo. Once you are suited up and have your CD in hand, you start the scan with your webcam. By comparing the dimensions of the CD against those of your body through a series of pictures taken by the webcam, it can then fairly accurately give you the measurements necessary for making clothing purchases online and never having to return them due to poor fit.
I found that:
1. When compared to the actual measurements I took with a tape measure, the UPcload measurements were reasonably accurate. The biggest discrepancies were my waist size and thigh circumference, the two measurements I would consider most important, but...(keep reading)
2. My measurements would probably have been much more accurate had I worn the correct garments. I live in Hawaii and don't own a lot of long anything. So my options were a long sleeved maternity top and casual business slacks that I pinned tight with chip bag clips. This success of the whole process depends entirely on the clothes you wear during the scanning. The tighter, the darker, the better.
3. Also, my profile body shot revealed I definitely need a much more supportive bra. Hello, motherhood.
At the end of the day, UPcload is going to develop a large merchant base that will offer sizes based off your UPcload measurements. Seeing how the firm had its start in Berlin, it will be interesting to see how many (and which) North American merchants join in.
I would recommend UPcload, due to how simple it was to use and how accurate it actually was. It only took ten minutes to complete the whole process which is 99% less time than it takes to return a garment to a site that requires you to pay return postage.
Plus, this totally eliminates the need for your grandma to wrap her measuring tape around your bust ever again. (We love you, Grams, but if we hear you say that our "breasts aren't as perky as they used to be" one more time, we're going to start forwarding you nursing home pamphlets.)
