Shopping Spree - Robin's $1000 First Date Outfit from

SHOPPING SPREE: 2 Editors. One store. $1000. GO!
Welcome to our newest feature, Shopping Spree, where we get to play our own version of Fantasy Football: Fantasy Shopping! Two of our crackerjack editresses are given "$1000" each to "spend" at an online store, and the assignment of shopping for a specific occasion. In today's matchup, it's Robin vs. Janetor in a cage (heel) fight to the death (by chocolate)! The mission: Spend $1000 on a first-date outfit of your choice at Ready... set.... SHOP!

Surely a first date outfit is somewhat dictated by what kind of date you're going on, but given that our man is mysterious, we tried to choose an outfit that would work for most typical first dates. (Admittedly, we don't usually drop 1K on a first date outfit, but when OB asks, we answer!)

We started with the very important base layer, which is where we determine what kind of date this could be. Keeping all options open, we went with a sexy, flirty set by Elle Macpherson Intimates: the Artistry Jet Contour Bra ($65) and Culotte ($35). That's right, full coverage on date number one, ladies, but definitely not something you'd be embarrassed to be seen in should the evening go remarkably well!

The main piece for our date outfit is a simple, elegant, basic but subtly detailed jersey (hello, comfort!) Faith Dress ($130) by Velvet. We l-o-v-e- the color, and the fit is flattering and feminine without being skintight. Plus, being in a dress just makes us feel sexy, and confidence is key to a second date.

Since the dress has a rich color, we decided to keep shoes simple with these black Belle by Sigerson Morrison Wedge Pumps ($295). The beauty in this shoe is that while it may be a heel, it's a wedge, so we've got plenty of stability, diminishing the risk of tripping on our way to the table or, worse yet, being swept off our feet! (But that's what the sexy unders are for, right?) A simple black Posh Turnlock Solid Flap Clutch ($178) matches the shoes and is totally functional. We keep it in our purse during the day and then just toss our necessities in it for date night.

The neck of the dress is supremely flattering, so we didn't want to take away from that, but jewelry is always a fun thing to play with, so this Layers Large Feather Necklace ($178) was a good way to go. It'll rest on the collarbone and add a pop of character to the outfit. Gold Extra Large Hoops ($105) from Melissa Joy Manning complete the date ensemble with polish.

We're put together, but definitely not trying too hard, and are ready for whatever fun romantic events this first date holds.

Total tally: $986

great but - I think the bra details would show through a thin jersey dress!
