Personal Shopper: Fashionable but Comfortable shoes for Maggie's Trip to China

Maggie writes: "Hi there Outblush! I've been a loyal reader for almost half a decade, and I love what you guys keep on churning out. Keep it up! My request is this: I'm going to travel around Hong Kong and mainland China for three weeks, and I'm stuck on the most important part of my wardrobe: the shoes. The women there always dress up for even the most mundane activities, such as taking a stroll to the market or even hiking up a mountainside (yes I once saw a lady wearing lace-up, knee-length high heel boots climbing up). Can you help me find a pair of comfortable yet fashionable shoes to wear in 90 degree, high humidity weather without looking too American touristy? Also, since I am vertically challenged, a small wedge heel would be great! My budget would be $150 or less for shoes, and I am leaving the states mid June. I wear a size 4.5-6 shoe depending on the brand."

Hi Maggie, Mitchy here, and I feel ya on the desire to wear cute shoes no matter where your travels take you. Here are a few pairs that are relatively neutral colors so you can wear them with almost anything, have a low to no-heel to give you a little boost, but aren't so excruciatingly practical that they're an eyesore. I especially like pointy toe flats for situations like yours; they've got the look of heels with a lot more stability. Clarks flats are also a good, comfy shoe that I've personally worn on trips to National Parks.

1 - Franco Sarto Caminoi Espadrille Slingback ($80)
2 - Gentle Souls Joyus Wedge Pump ($130)
3 - Sam Edelman Ionia ($96)
4 - Jessica Bennett Women's Dwayne Slingback Flat ($30)
5 - Clarks Chateau Manor ($80)
6 - Caressa Periwinkle ($129)
7 - Clarks Nessa Garden ($70)

#6 looks like the pair for quick dinner rather than hike up a mountain. I recommend American Eagle shoes-- they tend to be on trend while still matching with clothes you already have, surprisingly well made, comfortable, and exceptionally budget friendly.

I've been to China twice in July and I've had to toss my shoes after I got back to the states. :(

The weather and walking definitely take their toll.
