Sure, there are probably as many cute mugs as there are fish in the sea, but the Tobacco Leaf Mug ($20) absolutely took our breath away. We love how the leaves and flowers sprawl out to reach around the entire cup, as if blowing in the wind. Notice the dainty flowers dotting the handle and charming gold rim, in case you missed them. If you're in love, there's an entire table service in the same Metropolitan Museum of Art authorized reproduction pattern.
Why all the fuss? We call it china for a reason, folks. Chinese porcelain is prized by Western audiences for its whiteness, thinness and transparency, and its popularity hasn't diminished in 500 years. Designs with Asian flora and fauna continue to be sought after in table services and home decor objects. Our gorgeous little mug is painted with the "tobacco leaf" pattern, which was most popular in the late 18th to early 19th century and comes in a variety of styles. Fun fact: it's not tobacco at all - it's probably a tropical leaf with hibiscus and passion flowers. We remember for it for its vibrant exotic impact, not its misnomer.
