Don't worry, we'll fill you in on the secrets of the Taiyaki Hot Cake Maker ($27) in a bit, but trust us, you'll make delicious goodies with this fish-shaped cake press. If you're a pancake addict, keep reading. Yum yum yum.
First baked in Naniwaya in Azabu, Tokyo in 1909, Taiyaki has found global popularity. They're a lot like imagawayaki, except they're thinner and usually shaped like fish (cute!). Most commonly stuffed with red bean (azuki) paste, these are actually a pretty healthy sweet snack, all things considered. Of course, if our sweet tooth is acting up, we could stuff 'em with sugary taro.
