"Playbutton is a wearable button that plays music: A record that plays itself." A clever idea needs equally intriguing content. A British experimental filmmaker, photographer, author, and musician gives us what we want. Mark Borthwick's Light Up ($35) is a collection of soft songs characterized by faint chimes and a gentle guitar and nonchalant harmonies; this special edition comes in a boxed set with an exclusive 32 page booklet created by Mark. A perfect accompaniment to a lazy morning. Listening to new jams in our jammies sounds pretty good right now.
Knowledge beam coming at ya: Borthwick is kind of an artsy Renaissance man. His portfolio is chock full of film, music, fine art and fashion photography and even books, though his work seems to eminate from the exploration of the effects of light on film. Photos taken by Borthwick tend to have a dreamy, blown-out look from long exposures or over saturation of color. We just like how warm and sunny it all looks. Check out his interview on art blog Fecal Face for an inside look into that head of his.
