18K gold overlay gives the gypsy look some sophistication in the Minoan Pendant-Disk Earrings ($75). Made in a matte finish, this gleam won't blind anyone, but the swinging chains and circular drops will get us noticed. Great movement and a graceful fringe set these earrings apart.
Calling these earrings classic wouldn't date far back enough. Before Classical Greece the "first link in the chain of Europe" was the Minoan civilization, the Bronze Age culture of Crete. Discovered by Sir Arthur Evans in the early 20th century, members of this peaceful and gender equal mercantile society distinguished themselves as expert seafarers, painters, metal-smiths, linguistic innovators, and architects of elaborate palace cities. The Heraklion Archealogical Museum houses the largest collection of Minoan artifacts, with striking examples of early filigree goldsmith work, with drops similar to our featured earrings.
