Maybe we're not exactly in the market for a new home, but the stunning Huf Haus Art 6 ($Inquire) is solid green food for thought (We're not talkin' about green eggs and ham, people.). The German home specialists at Huf Haus have dropped their earth-friendly bomb, the Green Revolution, and this, in our opinion, is the most attractive model. The "split open" saddle roof creates a "butterfly construction" that's both elegant and shocking. Ideal geometric sections with minimal walls and maximum windows intermingle with each other for an airy architectural approach that's liberating.
Being German, Huf Haus is entirely indebted to Bauhaus and its founder Walter Gropius. An aesthetic movement driven by architectural principles, Bauhaus sought to build a world of total harmony, where functionality and beauty were united under modernist precision. For followers, life and art had a practical and productive relationship, and this philosophy applied to all the arts. The total urban utopia was never realized (thanks, Nazi Germany), but looking at Bauhaus darlings, the Copper Houses (c. 1930s) and the Gropis Estate, its influence is clear.
