If you haven't figured out we're Eames fans, or that mid-century everything is a hot commodity right now, welcome to the know. Rich Kids can get their design education while they're still growing with Eames Blocks ($140) This fun teaching tool brings hours of fun ... just don't throw 'em down the stairs.
You may not recognize Case Study House #8 (better known as the Eames House) in pieces, but these blocks build a mini version. This Pacific Palisades residence of Charles and Ray is the most famous home in the Case Study House project. Between 1945 and 1966, Arts & Architecture commissioned the building of 36 affordable modern homes to be built as a response to the residential housing boom after WWII. Not all were finished, but the completed homes, concentrated in Los Angeles and San Francisco, continue to draw visitors today as icons of modern architecture.
Other architects on the Case Study House ticket: Richard Neutra, Raphael Soriano, Craig Ellwood, Pierre Koenig and Eero Saarinen
