DIY divas, eat your hearts out. Choose from Anni Alber's Washer Necklace Kit, Bobbypin Necklace Kit, or Cork Necklace Kit (all $15) and string together a cool design made from reclaimed materials. A side project never hurt anyone.
Anni Albers showed the original jewelry that inspired these three necklaces in a 1941 traveling exhibition of accessories made from common objects, according to the San Francisco Museum of Craft and Design. These necklaces were produced during the period she taught at Black Mountain College in North Carolina from 1933-1949. During WWII, she and her students turned to everyday items to find design inspiration when materials were at their scarcest.
After studying textile design at Bauhaus, she went on to become one of the most well known textile artists of the 20th century. For more info, visit the Josef and Anni Albers Foundation.
