True confessions time: We buy makeup sometimes just for the label. There's something so satisfactory (and, yes, shallow) about whipping out a couture-label compact in public to do a touch-up. But what's even more smug-inducing? Finding a cheap alternative that does the job just as well. This Dior 5-Colour Designer All-In-One Artistry Palette - Navy Design (#1) would gouge $58 from our wallets, money we'd rather spend on high-quality skin care or shoes, not a palette we'll use a handful of times before its expiry date. The smoldering, rich denim, steel blue, silver and navy shades are pretty irresistible for fall, though, and we did a happy dance in the makeup aisle at Target when we discovered the Physicians Formula Shimmer Eye Shadow Strip in Smokey Blue (#2 in picture) for just $9.34 plus tax. Compare the eight shades in the Physician's formula palette, which includes a divine metallic bronze for accent, to the five you get with Dior, and you've got one helluva bargain for around 1/6th the price. You may have to apply more to get the same color payoff, it's true, but that's a price we're actually willing to pay.
