If you watched the Emmys this past weekend, you probably sighed over the perfect skin and makeup sported by stars like Blake Lively and January Jones. Ditto for flipping through any fashion magazine: everyone looks so flawless yet natural at the same time. Why? Airbrushed makeup - we're not talking photoshop here, people, but actual spray-on makeup.
In this edition of Aspire/Acquire, we're covering two versions of airbrushed foundation at hugely varied ends of the price spectrum: Natural Beauty inspired by Carmindy Airbrush Spray Makeup ($14) and the new TEMPTU AIRbrush Makeup System. ($225 starter kit + $30-55 pod refills)
Natural Beauty inspired by Carmindy Airbrush Spray Makeup isn't meant to be sprayed directly onto the face; rather, put some on the back of your hand & then blend this lightweight, oil-free product onto your face with a sponge. You get a sort-of airbrushed effect with very smooth, even coverage, and for $14, that ain't bad. There's even a "no color" shade for a translucent finish.
The hyper-expensive TEMPTU AIRbrush Makeup System is favored by Hollywood makeup artists, and once you get the hang of the application it's easy to see why. It's a very fine, focused mist that you apply in small circular motions and then blend with a sponge if needed. We do recommend putting towels over your chest, shoulders, and hair to avoid any spills. Reviewers say the "pods" system (product comes loaded in little aerosol pods) is a little unwieldy to swap out, but the perfect coverage is worth it.
