It doesn't smell like lobster. Relax.
And now that we've gotten that out of the way, we'd like to spread the word that the Smell Bent people have outdone themselves in weirdness with their new Dada (except actually mostly surrealist) collection. As always, these are powerful fragrances with some rough edges, but we were thrilled to see them swing back to the sharper end of the olfactory spectrum (that we liked so much in Lemon Cowboy) with Lobster Cellphone ($20 for oil, $45 for eau de toilette). Yup, it's a reference to Dalí's Lobster Telephone. It's a combination of citrus (especially grapefruit), tomato leaf, and ozonic and musky notes: bright, botanical, and lively. We admit, when we saw the list of notes, that we got to "musk" and winced, since that's not normally an ingredient that this brand uses in a restrained fashion . . . but we're happy to have been wrong. Snag yourself a sample for just $3.75 and try it out!
